NELSON RIDDLE

NELSON RIDDLE

The master of arranging for voice and Orchestra!

Riddle had an unreal gift of letting the solo-voice shine.

Virtually all famed Jazz singers worked with him during the "grand-years”;

Frank Sinatra, Nat 'King' Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland…you name'em.

Riddle began arranging in his youth, while playing trombone in Tommy Dorsey's Big-Band.

Soon he realised that he was earning a lot more by arranging than playing.

In 1950 he was hired by Les Baxter to arrange some songs for a recording at Capitol-Records.

Working as a “ghost-writer” for Baxter, he never got the credits for one of Nat 'King' Cole's biggest hit's; "Mona-Lisa".

Cole later found out about the truth and started working with Riddle directly - with huge success!

As Capitol-Records then had hired Riddle as their Staff-Arranger, they asked him to do some works

for this Sinatra-fellow...      ...the rest is history.
