Ferdinand David’s Op.8 for Clarinet and Orchestra.

 Theme: Schubert “Sehnsucht-Walzer” (D.365, Op.9).

David’s Op.8 is technically also a variations-piece;

- A theme with following variations, each more brilliant than the previous.

But this time the Clarinet is the solo-instrument.

Even if the Title says “Variations” - I would rather call it “his Clarinet-Concerto”.

David proves his skill as a solid composer, and at times really writes wonderful.

Being 29 year old as he wrote this, proves that he was more than a prodigy.

The piece was dedicated to the solo-clarinetist of the Gewandhaus orchestra.

-Here in a new revised edition.
